As part of the Global Academy of the Texas Christian University, 5 of its top students visited key sites and met experts related to wetlands, the struggle at different levels for their conservation and impacts of urban development in Panamá City. Conforming a multidisciplinary team, the five students´ week-long program in Panamá city included visits to the Metropolitan Park, which is considered the city´s lung, Cerro Ancon and the mangroves of the Bay of Panamá wildlife refuge.
Environmental lawyers shared the legal framework for wetland conservation their experiences in the court cases fighting wetland destruction, while journalists opened their eyes on how economic interests can interfere with objective reporting.
